{"id":977,"date":"2011-01-25T00:33:30","date_gmt":"2011-01-24T11:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/science4all.blogtown.co.nz\/?p=977"},"modified":"2011-01-25T00:33:30","modified_gmt":"2011-01-24T11:33:30","slug":"ginger-beer-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/science4all.blogtown.co.nz\/?p=977","title":{"rendered":"GINGER BEER RECIPE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Homemade Ginger Beer<br \/>\n(Makes 4 x 1.25 litre bottles)<\/p>\n<p>Yeast Mixture<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t1 teaspoon dried yeast (not Surebake type)<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t1 tablespoon sugar<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t1 cup warm water <\/p>\n<p>Ginger Beer<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t2 cups sugar<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t2 tablespoons ground ginger<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t1 teaspoon tartaric acid<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t2 litres hot water juice and grated rind of 2 lemons<br \/>\n\uf0d8\t2 litres cold water <\/p>\n<p>Stir the yeast mixture ingredients together in a small bowl or cup and leave to stand for 10 minutes.<br \/>\n1.\tPlace the sugar, ginger, and tartaric acid in a clean bucket.<br \/>\n2.\tPour in the hot water and lemon juice, and stir to dissolve the sugar.<br \/>\n3.\tAdd the cold water, cool to lukewarm, and add the yeast.<br \/>\n4.\tLeave in the bucket (covered with a towel) for 24 to 36 hours.<br \/>\n5.\tStrain into 4 thoroughly clean 1.25 litre softdrink bottles.<br \/>\n6.\tFill the bottle to within 5cm of the top with extra cold water.<br \/>\n7.\tPut 1 teaspoon of sugar in each bottle and screw on washed tops.<br \/>\n8.\tShake to dissolve the sugar.<br \/>\n9.\tLeave the bottles to stand in a warm place until they feel absolutely rigid when squeezed (this takes between 2 to 5 days to happen) then refrigerate. If the bottles are fizzy, loosen then tighten the lids several times.
